Adult Summer Reading Club reviews

From Elaine Pasquali

Wages of Sin / Andrew M Greeley

Greeley’s sociology and theology backgrounds enable him to weave Irish family dynamics, religious issues and Chicago politics into an engaging novel. Wealthy and powerful Lorcan Flynn struggles to remember events of decades ago that may point to him as a murderer. His daughter’s engagement to the son of a former lover further complicates matters. Lorcan struggles to unravel events, memories and repressed feelings. Father Blackie plays a minor but essential role. Once again Andrew Greeley wrote a “do not miss,” page turner novel. Hated to finish it.

Mrs. P is a wealthy widow. Mr. P made his fortune skirting the law but Mrs. P. was careful to keep uninformed about the details of his work. However, she is not above using the late Mr. P’s business contacts for her own aims. Mrs. P is not a likable character but she is an interesting one. An engaging mystery with several twists.
