Adult Summer Reading Club review

Title/Author Hillbilly Elegy/JD Vance

This memoir was the best memoir that I have read in a long time. It made one think about the economic crisis among the white poor in the USA, where most economic analysis are done on minority poor. This was a heartfelt expression of the author’s attempt of understanding how he fit into society and his concerned as to why there are forgotten groups of people in the US. I found this book to be intriguing and a real page turner. I highly recommend this book to others to read. How many stars does the book deserve? ☆☆☆☆

Title/Author Murder on Astor Place/Victoria Thompson

This is the first book of the Gaslight Murder Mystery stories written in 1999. I enjoyed Ms Thompson’s way to draw you right into the 1900’s and the historical facts of New York City. The main character is a midwife, Sarah Brandt. While delivering a baby in a rooming house she gets mixed up with a murder investigation. This is a quick read and a good murder mystery. How many stars does the book deserve? ☆☆☆☆
