This is the story of Margaret Mayfield, a turn-of-the-century Missouri old maid who is watching her life languish away. In swoops brilliant astronomer and physicist Captain Andrew Early, who marries her and moves her out to California with him. What seem to be the endearing quirks of a genius turn into dark, potentially dangerous behaviors. Throughout everything, Margaret remains calm and unflappable, and develops an ever-stronger sense of self. Although the story is a little dry at times, it’s suitable for all audiences.
