The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve
Based on a disastrous fire which really occurred in Maine in 1947, the novel portrays the tragic destruction that followed.
Not a bad read, but too unrealistic. After the tragedy of losing her home and not knowing if her husband was dead or alive, Grace Holland found a house, then a job, then discovered a fortune in jewels, learned how to drive and got a car, and fell in love. WOW. Despite all that, if you liked Shreve’s previous books, I think you will also like this one.
How many stars does the book deserve?
