Title/Author
Mrs. Queen Takes the Train: A Novel William Kuhn
A depressed Queen Elizabeth, questioning her relevancy, wanders from Buckingham Palace onto the streets of London, into a cheese shop, and onto a public train. Along the way, she meets a variety of people who are unaware of her identity. Her goal is to visit the royal yacht, Britannia, the scene of many happier times. While she is on this journey of nostalgia and self discovery, she is having the adventure of her life. Meanwhile, her worried staff is trying to find the AWOL queen before her absence becomes public knowledge. Although this is a novel, the author, an historian, peppers the story with insights into the daily life of the Queen, her family troubles, and her dreary royal obligations. Sometimes slow going but worth reading.
