Adult Summer Reading Club review

From Paulette Aspesi

Title/Author The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck
Set at the end of World War II, in a crumbling Bavarian castle, it is the story of three widows. Marianne von Lingenfels returns to the castle to uphold a promise she made to her husband. There had been a plot to assassinate Hitler & when it was uncovered her husband asked her try & help those who were still alive 7 needed assistance. First Marianne rescues Martin & then his mother Benita. And finally Ania & her two sons. In some ways it is the story of the Holocaust & its aftermath. It is also the story of humans and their frailties and different ways of coping. This was such a sad book. Cried a lot at the end. Great characters. Very thought-provoking. How many stars does the book deserve? ☆☆☆☆
