From Elaine Pasquali
Not a light read but a compelling read. FDR, running for a third term, is defeated by Charles Lindberg. This is a novel, but Roth has done his research. Lindberg, an antisemite, Nazi sympathizer, and isolationist, is elected President of the United States. This worse case scenario plays itself out. Jewish Americans no longer feel safe in their own country. The changes in society and the family are recounted through the eyes of a nine year old. The ending was precipitous and left me wondering how the family fared in the long run. How many stars does the book deserve?
