Summer Reading Club reviews

From Robin Pierre

Mary Higgins Clark

Death Wears a Beauty Mask and Other Stories is an easy pleasant read. Unlike most of Mary Higgins Clark’s books, this is a compilation of short stories. I like the short story format for a change of pace and her stories are well written, easy and enjoyable to reach. It is the perfect book to carry with you and to be able to read a story in one sitting. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I would recommend this book to everyone. It is a well written mystery, suspense psychological thriller. A husband and wife move from NYC to a small town where the husband grew up to take care of ailing parents. The wife disappears on the day of their fifth anniversary and leaves a trail making everyone believe that she is dead and the prime suspect is the husband. It was a little slow at the beginning until I got used to the writing style but one I became used to that it was a book that I did not want to put down. it would be a wonderful beach read.

In An Instant by Lee & Bob Woodruff

In an Instant is a book about Bob Woodruff who was injured by an IED that struck the Humvee he was traveling in while covering news stories in the Middle East. I learned a lot about what the initial injury, subsequent surgeries and the road to struggle learning the most basic skills. It is truly a miracle that he survived and is now back in the news business but not as an anchor. It is a heartwarming story of a wife and family that traveled an unfamiliar road to do what ever was necessary to keep everything together. The book shows the meaning of love under extreme circumstances and that a person is much stronger than they ever realized going through this experience. I would definitely read this book again it was that good.
