Physicist Lisa Randall describes the latest new particles discovered in the Standard Model, takes us on a detailed tour of the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, talks about advances in cosmology and warped space, discusses string theory and branes, and wraps them all up together with wonderful insights into the nature of science, beauty, and spirit. Randall is equally at home expounding on the new physics as she is dealing with the human quest for meaning in life.

An Available Man

From Sandi Rosenthal
Title:  An Available Man
Author:  Hilma Wolitzer
An Available Man is about Edward Schuyler, a 62 year old widower. The book takes us on his dating experiences. He met a few women after his step-children placed a personal ad in the paper and it was interesting to hear about these encounters. He re-connects with a past love who stood him up at the alter before he married his wife. I was annoyed that he re-kindled a relationship with her because she had many issues and I was happy when it ended. All in all, it was a cute story with a happy ending, but predictable.

Eat To Live

From Michele Szydlo
Title: Eat To Live
Author: Joel Fuhrman, M.D.
This book was written in 2003, so I don’t know if there is updated scientific data that would refute some of the claims, but it was readable & the  vegetarian recipes are easy. I’ve actually just started to follow his meal plans & my husband is enjoying it too. I plan to continue to try some of his  recipes, or at least use them as a jumping off point. It’s definitely helping me to lose my appetite for unhealthy foods.

The Man Who Lives With Wolves

From Donna Southard
Title: The Man Who Lives With Wolves
Author:  Shaun Ellis
I found out about this book after reading Jodi Picoult’s book, Lone Wolf.  Picoult developed her character based on the real life experiences of Shaun Ellis.  Wolves have always intrigued me and I wanted to learn more about a person who devoted his life to understanding wolves. I found it fascinating that Ellis altered his whole human life to relate to the wolves and I admired how he acted as a bridge between the wolf world and human world to educate humans about wolves and dogs.  I highly recommend this book to readers who respect nature and who care about how humans are impacting it.

Kill Shot

From Donna Southard
Title:  Kill Shot
Author:  Vince Flynn
Kill Shot is an action-packed book based on the beginning career years of established character Mitch Rapp.  I would equate this book to watching Kiefer Sutherland in the TV series “24”.  It has mystery, suspense, action and a little romance intertwined.  I feel that this book was a fast read and a real page-turner.
