The reading promise : my father and the books we shared
The Reading Promise: my father and the books we shared by Alice Ozma with foreword by her father,Jim Brozina, was an inspirational read. It reinforced in me the love of books and the connection that reading can forge between people. As a librarian, I believe a shared love of the words contained within books and recently within a handheld computer device can bridge cultures and open new vistas. The Reading Promise is a promise which is too often pushed aside in today’s society for encroaching technologies. A shared love of books fosters communication, a verbal exchange of ideas and facilitates understanding of ourselves and others. The father is a school media librarian and his love of books and performance has transmitted itself to his daughter and strengthened the bond between them, helping them weather the emotional storms inherent in daily life.
